Well, my first ever blog post. Hmm, where to start? I suppose I'd better introduce myself, shouldn't I? My name is Dean, I'm 21 years old and I live in South-East Queensland, Auatralia. I'm a Bachelor of Science student majoring in Clinical Sciences and if all goes well I might also major in Microbiology. I love studying biology, particularly anatomy, physiology, microbiology and pathology, although that's a bit ironic in itself because I'm not really a fan of blood and guts and I'm a germophobe.
Most importantly though I'm a car guy that would give almost anything to have been around in the 1960's, 70's and 80's, when the drivers were daring and courageous, the cars were drawn and made by hand, the gearsticks moved in a H pattern, and racing was raw, unsanitised and mad. My greatest love is GTP and Group C. These cars were nuts in their early years, and they only got better until the FIA messed up and basically killed it in the early 90's with their 3.5L "formula" rules. I just love the beautiful, sculpted shape that they have and that they actually look like cars, unlike the prototypes of today. I also love the way they sound, from the roaring Jaguar V12's to the screaming banshee Mazda 26B, the brutal Sauber Mercedes V8's, and the manic Nissan and Toyota turbos. My interests aren't limited to Group C/GTP alone though. I also like Group B, Group 5, all forms of IMSA, Trans Am, Can Am, Interserie, old DTM, 70's and 80's Formula 1, old NASCAR, GT1, GT2, GT3, ALMS, BTCC...and I think that's about it.
At the moment my main hobby is collecting 1/32 scale slot cars, although I have only been doing this hobby for about 2 months. I don't have that many so far (six at the moment), but their numbers are slowly growing. My favourite slot car brand so far is Slot.It purely on subject matter (mainly Group C cars), although I also like them for their engineering and how good the bodies look.
My aim for this blog is to basically share what I know about the cars and racing series that I love, post interesting auto-related stuff that I find and show off my slot cars as I add them. I hope you enjoy my blog and feel free to post your thoughts!
